Press release: open day Chinese garden ‘The Dragon dances again’

The Hortus Botanicus Haren has decided to move the open day of the Chinese garden, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, to Saturday, May 17, 2025. In 2025, the year of the snake, which stands for renewal, the Hortus will want to show the completely renovated Chinese garden to the general public. The reason for a new date is that restoration work is still in full swing. Step by step, the Ming garden, unique in Europe, will become more beautiful and more stunning.

Chinese garden blossoms again

New panels at the entrance flown in from China with real Chinese text on them.
The walls will be repainted.
There will also be a new Pergola.
These are examples of putting the finishing touches on the garden.
To the left on the panels is written “Shanghai – the birthplace of dragons” and to the right “Holland – the land of flowers.
In spring, when everything comes into bloom, celebrating that the Chinese garden is truly finished is perfectly fitting.
The day will be all about China filled with dancing, music and tasty snacks for young and old.

Dragon Wall

Dragon Wall

The Dragon Wall of celestial dragons in the Ming Empire is unique (in Europe) and a gift from China to the Hortus Botanicus (1995).
The wall screens off the imperial gardens to the south, as this is the domain of the emperor and his family.
