Report of the National Beekeeping Days

The national open beekeeping days in the Hortus on July 13 and 14, 2019 were a great
success. Our Hortus beekeepers, Hugo and Henk, together with a number of students of the
beekeeping program, stayed busy with non-stop guided tours and passing out folders.

The log cabin was continually full of visitors who were impressed with what they saw. Those who
didn’t manage to find a place in the cabin were guided to the workshop, where Hugo melted wax
and told about honey bees and the work of the beekeeper. About 250 people visited the open
days, including foreign tourists (Italy and Colorado, USA) who happened to be visiting the Hortus
and were very impressed at the reception they received at the bee hives. The weather certainly
played a part in the success of the event.

All in all, it was a very successful weekend!
