The Dragon Dances Again!

After months of careful restoration, the time has finally come: the Hortus Botanicus Haren’s Chinese Garden is back in all its glory! On this festive open day we celebrate this special moment with a wonderful program for young and old.

What all can you do?
During this special day, the entire Hortus transforms into a vibrant cultural oasis. Visit colorful demonstrations, learn to paint yourself, be enchanted by music and dance, and enjoy delectable Asian snacks.

In the Chinese garden, there are all kinds of things to see, such as:

  • Dragon and lion dances
  • Demonstrations of Chinese martial arts (Tai Chi and Kung Fu).
  • Live music on traditional Chinese stringed instruments
  • Poems
  • Exhibitions of flower arranging, origami, and Chinese painting, among others

Outside the garden, the party is just as lively with:

  • Workshops and demonstrations scattered throughout the grounds
  • A specially decorated children’s tent full of crafts, dance ribbons and face painting
  • Performances where you can also participate yourself with the dragon ribbon dance or a lesson in Tai Chi
  • A short film on the construction and significance of the Chinese Garden, viewable throughout

Hospitality & Culinary Experience

During this festive day, there will be treats available for a fee in several areas of the garden!

  • Teahouse – Dim sum (accessible only with time slot for Chinese Garden):
    Let the tranquility of the Chinese Garden settle in with a tasty break. Enjoy freshly prepared dim sum on the terrace
  • The Plantation
    From coffee and pastries, to freshly made sandwiches and homemade soups – here you will find something for everyone in an atmospheric setting.
  • Food trucks:
    Taste the world with Asian street food classics, surprising snacks and small dishes that will make your mouth water.
